No, this is not related to the MacBook Air. To install Mac OS X into a MacBook Air is much simpler, as Apple provides its users with an app called “Remote Install Mac OS X.” This app does not work with other Macs as far as I know.

We’re going to try something different, and it’s also rather easy to do. But why do this you might ask? Well, lets say you have a second Mac that does have a disc drive, but it doesn’t work for any reason. You may not want to buy a disc drive for it since you don’t need to. Although you may want to upgrade the computer to the latest Mac OS X. Continue reading…

I bought a new 3.2Ghz Quad-core Mac Pro a couple weeks ago with an Nvidia 8800GT video card. I received this Mac on Tuesday finally. I needed to upgrade from my Dual G5, and thought this would be the answer to all my prayers.

Well, after a nightmare with Apple and FedEx with my box being shipped without an address, it finally came home. Sadly, I’ve run into one very annoying problem. Continue reading…

Software pirating has been happening for years, and it will continue to happen in the future. The thing is, pirating has been rising dramatically, and people are not buying software anymore because for some, it’s getting too expensive, for others it’s just easy to pirate software.

One of the main questions I’ve asked myself recently is, “Why pirating has increased in the past few years?” I might have come up with a theory on that. We all have to realize a large contributor to this is the Internet, but the Internet has also served as a very important tool to revolutionize the way developers are able to get their applications to the consumer. I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited about this years MacWorld San Francisco. Just like many of you, I have heard of what Apple might release, and it certainly adds to the excitement. Here are a few things on my wish list for this years MacWorld SF: Updated MacBook Pros (can’t say no to a slimmer MacBook that has been the talk of the community), updated MacPros (my good’ol G5 needs a bigger brother), an update to the Apple TV (hasn’t it been long enough?). This last one might be too far fetched, but it’s free to dream so here it goes. I would love to see the wireless Apple keyboard in an extended version as well. Those who have the current, small wireless Apple keyboard know what I’m talking about.

This might not happen to many of you, but it sure happened to me, but if you’re buying a new Mac for the holidays read up. Recently I purchased an Apple Mac mini from my local Apple Store. I opened it, plugged it in, and to my dismay, the only OS installed and available was Mac OS X Tiger. I was sad not to see Leopard anywhere. I packed it back into the box, and went back to the Apple Store. One of the employees pulled out another Mac mini, and to our surprise, it also had Mac OS X Tiger only. Finally, I just asked her to bring me a 2.0GHz Mac mini, hoping that batch was not outdated, and I was right. What’s interesting is that I ended up driving back to the store, and exchanging an outdated Mac mini for a more expensive ($200 more), updated Mac mini, Apple wins. I guess I win as well, since I have an awesome entertainment system which I will be writing about soon.

The iPhone is the greatest cellphone there is, no doubt about it. I have had so many cellphones, and this is by far the most advanced, user-friendly phone I’ve owned. There is a big problem I have with it though, reception. AT&T is probably the worst company I have been with as far as reception goes, and to top it off, their customer service is just plain horrible. Raising the bar? I don’t see the bar, how are you supposed to raise it AT&T? Makes absolutely no sense.

I have been calling AT&T for the past weeks telling them how bad their reception is, and they tell me I’m not supposed to be getting any dropped calls in my area. Well guess what AT&T, all lies. There was a point where I wanted to just cancel my iPhone service, and go back to Verizon, which has excellent reception anywhere I’ve been. I remember getting stuck in the desert about 30 miles west of Yuma, CA. I had reception with Verizon then! Anyway, last time I spoke to a manager at AT&T, and he told me he was going to do the best he could to get some techs to check the towers near my area, haven’t heard from him since, and my reception hasn’t gotten any better.

As we approach the release of Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), Appleinsider suggests that this may be the last major Mac OS revision that supports the PowerPC architecture.

Looking ahead, those people familiar with Apple development cycles speculate that Mac OS X 10.6 will exclude support for PowerPC-based Macs entirely, requiring that users have one of the company’s Intel-based systems which first began making their way to market in early 2006.

Cited as speculation, Apple may not yet have made a decision on this matter. Apple has made no announcements about Mac OS X 10.6. Based on the most recent Mac OS development cycles, Mac OS X 10.6 would not likely ship until 2009. (source: MacRumors.com)

To promote its relationship with Apple and the new iTunes Wireless Music Store, Starbucks “plans to give away 50 million free digital songs to customers in all of its domestic coffee houses.” According to a CNNMoney.com article, baristas will “hand out about 1.5 million ‘Song of the Day’ cards” that customers can redeem at the iTunes Store. The cards feature the work of artists—beginning with Bob Dylan and “Joker Man”—on the Starbucks’ Hear Music label. The promotion kicks off on October 2, the day Starbucks will begin introducing access to the iTunes Wireless Music Storeat participating store locations (source: Apple.com)
